Newberry’s Ellis Signs With ArenaBowl Champs

PHOENIX, Ariz. (NC SID) — Former Newberry College All-American offensive lineman Jamal Ellis has been signed by the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers, as announced by the team Thursday. Ellis was a D2Football.com second team All-American as a senior in 2013, starting every game at left guard for the Wolves in their 9-3 playoff season. He was also a first team all-South Atlantic Conference selection that season and participated in the Green Bay Packers’ rookie mini-camp. The Rattlers have won the last three ArenaBowls and had a 15-3 record in 2014 season. The AFL season will pick back up in the spring of 2015. Ellis joins Newberry’s three NFL players as a professional. Other former Newberry players playing in indoor leagues include former star wide receivers David Pressley and Tymere Zimmerman for the Cape Fear Heroes based in Fayetteville, N.C.
