Corso Picks Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — ESPN College GameDay analyst Lee Corso picked the Gamecocks to beat Missouri in the finale of the live show on USC’s historic Horseshoe Saturday. But he managed to get booed by the partisan Carolina crowd in the process. Corso has long been reviled by USC fans since he proclaimed that Steve Spurrier would never win an SEC championship in Columbia. Corso called for ESPN to re-air that clip from 2005 just before he donned the Cocky mascot head and held USC’s live version of its mascot, Sir Big Spur. “I don’t think Spurrier wins the SEC or national title,” Corso said in the clip dated September 1, 2005. “I don’t care if he coaches here 400 years.” Kenny Chesney was the celebrity guest on GameDay. The country music superstar also performed live on the show. Chesney, who recently produced an ESPN documentary on fellow Tennessee native Steve Spurrier, picked the Gamecocks to beat Missouri. Heisman trophy winning analyst Desmond Howard also picked USC. ESPN’s top college football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit, reminded the live GameDay crowd he was one of the few experts to pick South Carolina to beat Georgia this season. Herbstreit then promptly proceeded to pick Missouri to win tonight. The South Carolina-Missouri game is set for 7 PM ET on ESPN. The Gamecocks are 2-0 against the Tigers since Mizzou joined the SEC. USC won 31-10 at Williams-Brice in 2012, Missouri’s SEC debut. Last year, thanks to a tremendous comeback effort led by quarterback Connor Shaw, the Gamecocks won a 27-24 thriller in double overtime.
