Suspended SC speaker Bobby Harrell’s Bond Set

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Suspended House Speaker Bobby Harrell had bond set Monday in a Richland County court on nine misdemeanor charges. The judge set a personal recognizance bond at $18,000 Monday. Harrell does not have to post money. Harrell suspended himself from office earlier this month. That move came a day after a grand jury indicted him on nine misdemeanor counts of misconduct and using campaign donations for personal use. The case has been ongoing since Attorney General Alan Wilson accepted an ethics complaint against Harrell in February 2013 and sent it to the State Law Enforcement Division for investigation. Wilson sent the case to the state grand jury. Harrell asked the court to remove Wilson, who ultimately voluntarily stepped aside and transferred the case to Pascoe.
