USC students getting fire safety lessons

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Students at the University of South Carolina are getting some lessons on the real life dangers of fire.

The school is hosting a Fire Safety Awareness Day on Thursday. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., firefighters are demonstrating how they get people out of a vehicle after a crash.

They will also be setting a mock dorm room on fire, showing how quickly a room can be engulfed in flames.

Baseball Coach Chad Holbrook is speaking, and university fire and housing officials will also be available to talk about fire safety.
