USC hosts symposium on history of radio, TV

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina is hosting a symposium on the history of radio and the impact of television and mass media on society and national sovereignty.
Friday’s events begin at 10 a.m. with a round table discussion in the Hollings Room at the Thomas Cooper Library
Visiting scholars include Michele Hilmes from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Anna McCarthy, New York University; and Lisa Parks, University of California-Santa Barbara.
Tours are being given at the Moving Image Research Collections on Catawba Street at 1:00 p.m., 1:15 and 1:30. Those interested can email histcntr@mailbox.sc.edu to sign up. The events are free.
