(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — ” This was really the center of the excitement here in campus.” And more than 7 decades later Preston College still is. Hundreds of former and current students staff and faculty gathered at USC to celebrate 75 years of the iconic building also known as the Waldorf Astoria of it’s time . It’s been more than 30 years since he lived in the only residential college in the entire state of South Carolina, Lyw Burkholder says although memories have not changed…he says the building is much different then he recalls. ” it’s very interesting. it’s changed a lot. the whole campus has changed a lot. Many of the basketball players lived here together so we just had an open building. with no ac windows and doors were open and we could hear people all over the place.” From the past …to the present the one thing that has not changed is the sense of community that has been a staple of campus live since it’s inception in september of 1939. Just ask preston sophmore Kendra Little. “It’s exciting to know preston has been in the lives of so many people. it’s not just us…not just the freshman, sophomores…it reaches far beyond that.”
