SC State Fair goes pink for breast cancer
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — There’s a lot more than just rides, food and fun happening at this year’s South Carolina State Fair.
For the first time in its 145-year history, the fair that gets underway on Wednesday in Columbia is taking on a tinge of pink as organizers focus on bringing awareness to breast cancer through a variety of activities.
Organizers say this is the first state fair in the country to be devoted in such a way. An army of volunteers — many of whom have been personally affected by breast cancer — will be donning pink wigs and manning info booths to spread the word.
