Tom Ervin Suspends campaign, Endorses Sheheen for SC Governor

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Independent candidate Tom Ervin announced Tuesday in Greenville, one week before Election Day that he plans to suspend his campaign and endorse Vincent Sheheen for Governor. He says he entered the race because he wanted a change in leadership, and he’s decided the best way to make that happen is to throw his support behind Sheheen. Ervin recognizes it’s too close to the election for his name to be removed from the ballot. People already are voting absentee. Ervin has put more than $3 million of his own money into the race. The latest Winthrop Poll shows Gov. Nikki Haley 10 points ahead of Sheheen among likely voters, with 44 percent. Ervin had just 4 percent.
