Pickens police officer charged with assault

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) — A Pickens police officer has been charged with assaulting a woman.
Multiple media outlets reported that 56-year-old Robert Lee Sapp is accused of touching a woman without her consent earlier this year.
Sapp was charged Tuesday with assault and battery and misconduct in office. He could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted on both charges. It was not clear if Sapp has a lawyer.
He was suspended without pay in June and resigned in July.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
