Poet, author Hoagland at USC literary festival

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Award-winning author and poet Tony Hoagland is conducting a reading of his works as the final event in the University of South Carolina’s fall literary festival.

Hoagland appears Thursday evening at the Thomas Cooper Library on the university’s Columbia campus. His reading is free and open to the public.

Hoagland is best known for his commentaries on contemporary American life. His award-winning books of poetry include “What Narcissism Means to Me,” ”Donkey Gospel” and “Sweet Ruin.”

The author was given the Poetry Foundation’s 2005 Mark Twain Award in recognition of his contribution to humor in American poetry.
