Columbia to open shelter because of cold weather

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The city of Columbia is opening its inclement weather center this weekend because of the forecast for low temperatures.

City Manager Teresa Wilson says the center will be open 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. She says city officials will decide Monday whether to open the shelter again that evening.

Lows are forecast to be in the 30s all three nights.
