Former Gamecocks Running Back Arrested

Former University of South Carolina Gamecocks Running Back Demetris Summers was arrested in Lexington County early Tuesday morning and charged with driving under the influence and possession of crack cocaine. At 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to an incident originally reported as a vehicle collision involving Summers’ silver Honda. Officers found Summers at the scene of the crash and immediately performed a field sobriety test on the former Lexington High School running back which was failed. Officers then searched the vehicle belonging to Summers and found crack cocaine and a 40 caliber handgun. Summers was arrested and charged with a DUI, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and unlawfully possessing a firearm. He was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on a $7,000 bail.
