Gamecocks Top Gators 23-20 in OT

Despite Florida leading a majority of the second half, the Gamecocks bounced back to beat the Gators 23-20 in overtime. Matt Jones punched in the first score of the second half on a one-yard touchdown run to cap off a 10 play 71-yard touchdown drive with two minutes to go in the third. The Gamecock offense was held in check by the Gators until 12 seconds to go in regulation, after Mike Davis fumbled an option pitch but fell on the ball in the endzone to tie the game at 17 and send the game into overtime following the Elliot Fry extra point. The Gamecocks defense would hold the Gators to a field goal on the first drive of overtime. Mike Davis would then pick up two first down runs to set Thompson up for a four-yard touchdown run to win the game. The Gamecocks got on the board first on their opening drive thanks to a 20-yard touchdown by Brandon Wilds to cap off a three minute 85-yard drive. After forcing Florida to go three and out on their opening drive, Gamecocks would add to their lead thanks to an Elliot Fry 31-yard field goal. While the first quarter was all South Carolina, the second quarter was dominated by Florida. Behind some solid running from Treon Harris and Matt Jones, the Gators knocked in a 34-yard field goal to cut the Gamecock lead to seven. Florida would tie the game up just before the half driving 50 yards in one minute for a Treon Harris 11-yard touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson. The touchdown pass was only Harris’s second of the game. Mike Davis had 14 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Wilds recorded 12 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Thompson went 22 of 41 with no touchdowns or interceptions. Florida quarterback Treon Harris went 5 of 11 for 60 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball 20 times for 111 yards.
