SC man pleads guilty in stabbing, gets 18 years

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — A 44-year-old Orangeburg man has plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in a 2011 stabbing death.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported (http://bit.ly/1vlLGxJ ) that Harvey Randall McDaniel avoided a murder trial after he entered the plea Wednesday.

Circuit Judge Ed Dickson sentenced McDaniel to 18 years in prison.

Forty-seven-year-old William Danny Black was found stabbed to death in his home south of Orangeburg, apparently several days before being discovered.

Authorities had been searching for McDaniel in a separate robbery case, and learned he was hiding out in a motel in Thompson, Georgia.

McDaniel surrendered to officials following a five-hour standoff with agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
