Newberry Hoops Cracks Coaches Poll

NEWBERRY (NC SID) — The Newberry College men‘s basketball team made its inaugural debut in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II National Rankings released on Tuesday afternoon at the No. 21 spot. The Wolves moved up four spots to No. 18 in the D2SIDA National Poll and hold their No. 3 regional ranking as released on Tuesday afternoon. As a Division II institution this is the second time Newberry has been recognized in a top 25 poll as the Wp;ves debuted in the D2SIDA National Poll last week. The Wolves are the second team from the South Atlantic Conference to be featured in both polls, as Lincoln Memorial is currently at No. 8 in the NABC and No. 10 in the D2SIDA poll. With Saturday‘s 74-59 victory over Anderson, Newberry improved to its best start under head coach Dave Davis and are 8-0 going into Wednesday’s non-conference matchup against the College of Faith Saints. Newberry currently sits second in the nation for 3-point field goals per game at 14.6 and is fifth in the nation in assists per game with 20.6. The prolific scoring has the Wolves in the top 10 nationally in points per game with 93.0. College of Faith enters tomorrow’s contest with a 0-6 record. They‘ve dropped contests to Barber Scotia (90-55), Piedmont International (100-75), Clinton College (111-80), North Carolina Central (123-65), Voorhees College (95-68), and Saint Augustine (110-59). The Wolves play the Saints on Wednesday evening inside Eleazer Arena at 7 p.m. Newberry then hosts Southern Wesleyan on Saturday evening at 6 p.m before traveling to Harrogate, Tenn., on Monday, December 15, for a Top 25 contest against Lincoln Memorial at 8 p.m.
