SC agency leaders receiving raises up to 4 percent

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Dozens of state agency directors in South Carolina are getting raises of up to 4 percent.

The Agency Head Salary Commission on Tuesday approved performance raises for agency leaders that take effect Jan. 1. The combined raises total $168,200. The commission determined each director’s increase based on performance evaluations filled out by either an agency’s governing board or Gov. Nikki Haley for her Cabinet members.

According to the Budget and Control Board, 38 of the 82 directors and college presidents whose salaries the commission sets will get raises.

Those ineligible include people who got any other type of increase this fiscal year and people hired since Oct. 1.

The state budget provided public workers a 2 percent cost-of-living increase July 1. Agency heads weren’t eligible for that.
