Shwedo to remain director of SC DMV

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley says the director of the state Department of Motor Vehicles will remain in the job in her second term.

Haley said Wednesday that retired Army Col. Kevin Shwedo is staying at the agency he’s led since she appointed him in January 2011.

Haley credits Shwedo for improving customer service at DMV offices. She says he audited every office in the state to identify best practices and use them statewide. She says he also emphasized employee training.

Shwedo served in the Army for 32 years before his appointment. He had been the deputy commanding officer at Fort Jackson since 2007. He was previously posted at the Army training center that adjoins Columbia from 2000 to 2002 as a brigade commander and battalion commander from 1995 to 1997.
