Deputies: Highway in Whitmire back open after house fire

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A portion of a highly traveled road in Whitmire is back open after a morning house fire. That’s according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office. Around 6am, South Carolina Highway 66 between Old Airport Road and Little Egypt Road was closed. Deputies were asking drivers to use an alternate route as crews worked to get the fire under control. They added it would affect school traffic. As of 7:30am, the highway has re-opened, but deputies are asking drivers to take it slow and be aware of workers at the scene. Fire trucks and emergency vehicles are still in the area as crews work to clean up the damage left behind. No more details about the fire were provided.
