Woman gets 2 years for lying to federal agents

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Fort Mill woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for her lies to authorities that led to the shooting of a FBI agent.

Federal guidelines called for up to six months for 22-year-old Kirstie Barratt. But prosecutors asked for and received a tougher sentence Monday because they said Barratt’s false statements directly led to the wounding of the federal agent.

Prosecutors say agents were looking for Barratt’s boyfriend, James Lewis, on an armed robbery charge at the couple’s Fort Mill home in January. Authorities say Barratt told them twice Lewis wasn’t in their home, even after seeing him in a bedroom with a gun.

Investigators say Lewis shot the FBI agent, who has recovered. Lewis remains in jail awaiting trial.
