Columbia firefighter charged with criminal domestic violence

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A firefighter with the Columbia Fire Department has been suspended while a criminal domestic violence charge is pending against him.

Local media outlets report that 42-year-old Anthony Darrell Stewart was arrested Monday. Authorities say Stewart hit a woman on the arm and hand during a fight at a nightclub in October.

Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says Stewart is an 11-year veteran of the department and has been placed on suspension while the case is investigated.

Police say bond for Stewart has been set at $5,000. It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.
