Rainy and maybe stormy Christmas Eve in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Forecasters say a wet Christmas Eve in South Carolina could also bring some strong thunderstorms later in the day.

The National Weather Service said warmer air moved into the state from the south overnight, bringing heavy rain with it.

A tornado watch has been issued for the south coast until 2 p.m. Wednesday.

A flash flood warning was issued for downtown Columbia for a time Wednesday morning. Forecasters also warned of flood possibility in Greenville and Spartanburg counties.

Temperatures are expected to get into the 60s across nearly the entire state Wednesday.

But that warmer air could bring some strong thunderstorms, especially south and east of Columbia.

The rain should clear out late Wednesday. Forecasters say the sun will return Christmas Day.
