Police: 3-year-old boy dies from abuse in Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say the mother of a 3-year-old boy and her live-in boyfriend have been charged with homicide by child abuse after the toddler died from head injuries.
Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said in a news release that one of his deputy coroners thought the child’s death Tuesday at the hospital was suspicious and consulted with an emergency room doctor, who scanned the child’s body.
Police say the scan showed injuries from abuse, including head injuries that caused bleeding on the child’s brain that resulted in his death.
Investigators say the boy’s mother, Theia McArdle, and her live-in boyfriend Richard Bowman were arrested later Tuesday and charged with homicide by child abuse. It wasn’t known if they have lawyers.
