Railroad offers $10,000 reward for derailment information

MARTIN, S.C. (AP) — Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information about a train derailment last week in Allendale County. But the FBI and railroad officials won’t say whether they think the wreck was caused on purpose.
CSX announced the reward Wednesday. Company spokeswoman Kristin Seay says CSX is working with federal investigators to determine what happened. The FBI in Columbia referred all questions to the railroad.
The Jan. 27 derailment occurred when a through train ended up on a side track used by a chemical company near Martin in Allendale County. The train hit parked car, flipped off the track and hydrochloric acid leaked out.
No serious injuries were reported.
State investigators have said the rail line was controlled by a nearby manual switch.
