Civilians can sign up to see soldiers train at Fort Jackson

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — It’s time for South Carolina residents to sign up if they would like to spend a day learning how the Army puts its soldiers through basic combat training.
Army Maj. Gen. Bradley Becker is inviting the public to tour Fort Jackson outside Columbia on Thursday, Feb. 19, but those interested in attending must reserve a spot by Wednesday.
The tour is open to people ages 13 and older. It begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts all day. Lunch is $5.55.
During the tour, visitors will attend a Basic Combat Training graduation, learn to shoot the M16A2 simulator, eat in an Army dining hall and get answers to questions about the training, Fort Jackson, and the Army.
To make a reservation call Fort Jackson Community Relations at (803) 751-1474.
