Red flag fire alert issued for all of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Windy and dry conditions are leading state authorities to issue a red flag alert against outdoor burning for all of South Carolina this weekend.

The state Forestry Commission said the alert goes into effect Friday. The alert doesn’t outlaw burning in many areas but is an advisory that fires can easily spread.

Forecasters say conditions are favorable for fires, including low humidity and high winds.

The alert will remain in effect until it’s lifted by the commission. The agency says its fire managers will be continuously monitoring the situation throughout the weekend.
