SC Trooper Involved Shooting Suspect Identified

(WOLO) LEXINGTON, S.C., — We now know the identity of a man accused of shooting at a South Carolina State Trooper Saturday night. Sled says 36 year old Chance Etheredge was pulled over around 8:30 Saturday night for suspicion of DUI as he was driving down Interstate 20, near Bush River Road. Authorities say the trooper stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to undergo a field sobriety test, officials say Etheredge failed. Law enforcement says once the trooper attempted to place the suspect under arrest he resisted at which time the trooper attempted to use his taser, but investigators say the weapon was ” ineffective”. According to authorities Etheregde got back into his vehicle and produced a handgun firing shots at the trooper. The trooper returned fire striking Etheredge who was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. Parts of the interstate were shut down and car re-routed to Interstate 26 for several hours. The trooper is on administrative leave pending the outcome of SLED’s investigation.
