BlueCross BlueShield of SC, Lexington Medical Center Contract Dispute

Lexington, S.C. (WOLO)– Important information for those who whose health insurance is through Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. In a statement released on its Facebook page the insurer says Lexington Medical Center has chosen to let its contract expire at the end of this month. In the statement the company says “This is unfortunate for the many Blue Cross Preferred Blue members who receive their care through Lexington Medical Center and its physician affiliates. In fact, we asked for a 30-day extension in hopes of resolving our differences, which they declined. Lexington Medical Center, however, is disputing that claim. A statement on its website reads, contrary to statements from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Lexington Medical Center has been working to negotiate fair and reasonable terms with the insurance provider for months, offering proposals that are in line with previous agreements and that will allow the hospital to continue providing excellent health care to the people of our community. Both Blue Cross Blue Shield and Lexington Medical Center have said they hope for further negotiations in the future.
