SC tavern to donate thousands of dollar bills to veterans
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Thousands of dollar bills stapled to walls and ceilings at a Beaufort tavern are being taken down and donated to the Honor Flights, which take veterans to Washington to view the war memorials built in their honor.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/1ASLjT3 ) that bills tacked onto two rooms in Johnson Creek Tavern are coming down during a fundraiser at 1 p.m. Saturday. Twenty Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort are expected to help.
Tavern managers Jay Lloyd and Coleman White told the paper they expect between $8,000 and $10,000 is being removed during the event. They say proceeds will pay for more than a dozen local veterans to go on the free trip from Columbia to Washington in May.
