SC sheriff’s bocce tournament to benefit Special Olympics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A bocce tournament this weekend is benefiting Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is inviting people to take part in the Joe Strong Bocce Tournament on Sunday. The event is named for Capt. Joseph Pellicci, one of Lott’s deputies who died after a long battle with cancer.

On-site registration is available and begins at noon, with the tournament starting at 1 p.m. Each team gets free breakfast, lunch, beverages and the guarantee of playing a minimum of three games in a round-robin format.
