Authorities seeking couple that dropped off injured dog

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man and woman who dropped off a badly injured dog that had to be euthanized after they dropped it off at a local animal rescue center.

Lexington County Sheriff Lewis McCarty said in a statement released to local media outlets that the two left the small, male pit bull unattended at the center on Sunday.

An employee at the nonprofit PETS Inc. found the dog hiding in a doghouse outside the rescue center, which was not open when the dog was left. The employee reported the incident to the sheriff’s department and told deputies that she took the dog to a veterinarian.

The veterinarian determined that the dog could not recover from its injuries and had to be euthanized.
