SC financier Darla Moore’s portrait being unveiled at USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A new portrait of South Carolina financier Darla Moore is being unveiled at the business school that bears her name at the University of South Carolina.
The portrait is by Australian-born artist Ralph Heimans, best known for the official 2012 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her diamond jubilee.
Friday’s event takes place at 4:30 p.m. at the business school.
USC spokeswoman Peggy Binette says the 14-by-8-foot oil shows Moore standing on the stairs in the courtyard of the business school during its construction. Moore earned her undergraduate degree at USC in 1975 and until 2012 was vice president of Rainwater Inc., a Texas-based private investment company. The painting was commissioned and paid for by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
