USC Spring Practice #10 Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — The University of South Carolina football team gathered at the new practice facility on Thursday afternoon for its 10th official workout of the spring. The squad practiced in helmets and shoulder pads on another gorgeous spring day in Columbia. Head coach Steve Spurrier said the quarterbacks did ok today. “We‘re at a point where the offensive line has a tough time blocking our D-line right now,” said the Head Ball Coach. “We‘ve got all the guys in there that have never played basically except Alan Knott at center. The rest of them are all freshman, redshirt freshman type guys. But that‘s good for them. So we don‘t get many passes off. But that‘s ok right now. “All three of (the quarterbacks) have really improved,” continued Coach Spurrier. “Connor (Mitch) does a lot of good things here and there. Perry (Orth) and (Michael) Scarnecchia do some good things too. We‘ll keep them all competing and learning the offense and so forth.” Coach Spurrier noted that there is a lot of opportunity for the younger wide receivers to step up. “Deebo (Samuel) is doing well. Deebo is going to play a lot. Terry Googer caught some balls today… Shaq Davidson… Shamier Jeffery catches most of them. He still drops a few here and there.” The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Friday before venturing into Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday morning for their second official scrimmage of the spring. Both of those practices are closed to the public.
