Organization Asks Public to Donate Gently Worn Shoes

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “Keep the Midlands Beautiful” is running a shoe collection drive. It’s to raise funds for quality litter prevention and recycling. The idea is to keep old shoes out of landfills. About 630 million pairs of shoes are reportedly thrown away each year. The challenge goes through May 11. Gently worn shoes can be dropped off at the City’s Administration Building. It’s located at 1136 Washington Street. Office hours are from 8:30 in the morning to 5:30 at night. Shoes should be placed in the big green bin labeled “Shoe Recycling Drop Off.”
