Rod Pampling shoots 63 to take Web.com Tour lead

GREER, S.C. (AP) — Australia’s Rod Pampling shot a 9-under 63 on Thursday at The Reserve at Lake Keowee to take the first-round lead in the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am.

The 45-year-old Pampling birdied five of his last six holes.

“At the end of the year, I looked at all of my old videos from ’04, ’05 and ’06,” Pampling said. “The setup was very different — basically just went back to that setup and nothing else. I felt a little more athletic over the ball and more balanced and it has started to come around.”

Jason Allred and Si Woo Kim were two strokes back. Allred also opened at The Reserve at Lake Keowee, and Kim played Green Valley Country Club.

Mark Blakefield, Aron Price and Miguel Angel Carballo had the best rounds at Thornblade Club, shooting

6-under 65s. The final round will be played on the Thornblade layout.
