Blowfish Open Season Tuesday
Lexington County, S.C. (Blowfish) — The Lexington County Blowfish will play their first game of the 2015 season against the Florence Redwolves tonight at 7:05 p.m. Last season, Florence earned the upper hand in a tiebreaker to force the Blowfish out of the Petitt Cup playoffs. Both teams finished with identical 17-11 records in the second half of the 2014 season. The Blowfish roster, boasting a bevy of local talent, will look to start the journey on a winning note, and come back home for seven of the next nine games. The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 19th season in 2015, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,200 alumni drafted and 75 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far; while another notable alum – Russell Wilson – won Super Bowl XLVIII.
