Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Wednesday afternoon Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made her first campaign stop in South Carolina. The former first lady gave the keynote address to the South Carolina House Democratic Women’s Caucus and the South Carolina Democratic Women’s Council at their Third Annual Day in Blue. “The theme of this day of events is how to build a party and how to build a party that really respects and includes women and gives women not only a chance to be at the table, but be at the head of the table,” said Clinton. The theme of Clinton’s speech revolved around equal pay for women where she unveiled a three point plan which includes passing the paycheck fairness act, raising wages for the lowest paying jobs in the country, which Clinton said are disproportionately held by women, and pay transparency. “You can’t stand up for equal pay if you don’t know if you’re paid equally,” said Clinton. In the crowd made up mostly of women, her message hit home. “What she said basically was put families first and if you do that and if you do what’s right for families the rest of it will follow,” said Jane Pulling. And the message wasn’t lost on the men in the crowd either. “As someone who has female friends, someone that has a mother, they deserve to get paid a full dollar for equal work,” said Nick Sottelie. Officials said South Carolina is one of the key states on Hillary Clinton’s campaign trail and she will be returning to the state several times this summer.
