LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO) – A barricade situation at a Lexington business ended peacefully Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at the 4800 block of Sunset Boulevard. In a crowded parking lot off Sunset Boulevard, SWAT Team members led a JR Automotive employee to an ambulance, after he barricaded himself alone inside the business for more than 2 hours. Authorities said the incident began around 10am Thursday when they responded to a welfare check call. “Officers came out and initially tried to make contact with him, he became belligerent and uncooperative with officers, then basically barricaded himself, he wouldn’t come out of the building,” explained Lt. Carroll Bledsoe, Lexington Police Dept. Spokesperson. For several hours, officials talked and negotiated with the individual. However, authorities said the situation escalated and that’s when the SWAT team took action to end the situation peacefully without any injuries. Following standard protocol, the individual was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. “Our original reason for being out here was for a person that was concerned for his health and safety, so we’re continuing to follow up on that, we’re completing what we came here for,” said Lt. Bledsoe.
