Former DHEC director working as Revenue consultant

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The former director of South Carolina’s public health and environmental agency is back in state government as a Revenue Department consultant.

The State newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1GOGkFU ) Catherine Templeton is paid $12,500 monthly in her new role with the state’s tax collection agency. It began in April, three months after she resigned from the Department of Health and Environmental Control.

An agency spokeswoman says Templeton’s focus will be technology security. The agency continues to work on solutions stemming from the 2012 massive hacking of taxpayers’ data.

Templeton is an attorney. Gov. Nikki Haley first picked Templeton in December 2010 to lead the state’s labor and licensing agency. Haley chose Templeton for DHEC in 2012.

The agency says Templeton’s cybersecurity experience comes from working with DHEC auditors to develop record protection programs.
