1 dead in shooting in Columbia following break-in

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Police say one man is dead in a shooting following an apartment break-in in suburban Columbia.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says that 27-year-old Davaris Tramaine White was shot and killed about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. The coroner says White died of a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex in the city’s western suburbs.

A police spokeswoman tells local media outlets that authorities think the shooting was a random act of violence. Police have not released additional details.
