City fires Newberry police chief

NEWBERRY, S.C. (WOLO) – The Newberry police chief is out. Assistant City Manager, Matt Dewitt, has confirmed the firing of Dennis Brown. He says it’s due to a personnel issue and wouldn’t go into anymore detail about the matter. Brown has been on the job less than a year. He took over the department last July. We have learned there’s no permanent time table to fill the position. Right now, the city has named Captain Roy McClurkin as interim police chief.
