Former Clemson Guard’s Aunt Killed in Church Shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. — One of the victims taken in Charleston’s fatal shooting that left nine dead was a family member of former Clemson basketball player Patrick Rooks. Rooks’ aunt, Depayne Middleton, shared the pulpit with South Carolina State Senator Clementa Pinckney, who was also slain in the attack. Middleton was a mother of a minister and four daughters and also sang in the church choir. Rooks, shooting guard for Clemson from 2013-2014, transferred from Clemson in March 2015. He averaged 4 minutes per game for the Tigers and made six 3-pointers in his career. Rooks did not want to comment Thursday on the shooting though did say, “Please keep our family in your prayers.”
