Lugoff woman charged in theft of nearly $117K from employer

LUGOFF, S.C. (AP) — A Lugoff woman who worked for a Kershaw County doctor’s practice has been arrested after authorities say she embezzled more than $116K from her employer between 2013 and 2014.
The State of Columbia (http://bit.ly/1dNz3uk ) reports 47-year-old Marsha Burr turned herself in to authorities Thursday.
Officials started an investigation at the SC ENT Allergy and Sleep Medicine Center in May after someone examining the practice’s accounting records found improprieties. According to the complaint, Burr, who was an accountant, wrote checks to herself and another company she worked for totaling $116,609.
Burr has been charged with breach of trust and forgery. She was booked and released from the Kershaw County Detention Center after posting bond.
It is unclear if she has a lawyer.
