2 men arrested in Richland County shooting death

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County sheriff’s deputies have arrested two men in the shooting death of a man last week.

Deputies told local media that 18-year-old Maurice Jaquwan Miller and 18-year-old Shykiem Universal Smith were arrested Tuesday and were charged with murder and attempted armed robbery.

Deputies responding to a report of gunshots found 26-year-old Rickey Daniel Baker lying in a road early July 2. Baker was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Leon Lott said Baker had been walking to a bus stop to go to work when he was attacked.

It was not clear if Miller and Smith have attorneys yet.
