Spurrier Shines At SEC Media Days

Steve Spurrier’s annual podium appearance is always one of the highlights of SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL and the Ball Coach did not disappoint again this year. The 70-year-old Spurrier opened his Tuesday morning remarks with a joke that he thought most of the familiar-looking sportswriters in the room would have retired by now. The all-time winningest coach at Florida and USC said he didn’t think he would be very good at retirement. He noted that two presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, along with Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski are 69 years old. Spurrier pointed out that Tennessee and Arkansas had the same 7-6 record that his South Carolina team did in 2014, and jabbed that fans in Knoxville and Fayetteville were doing cartwheels. The Gamecocks coach repeated the importance of winning a fourth straight bowl game and hiring former Florida colleague Jon Hoke to help fix the defensive problems that plagued Carolina in 2014.
