Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — On Saturday, the Ku Klux Klan and several other groups rallied on the State House grounds. Early in the day, a Black Panther group rallied peacefully on the front lawn of the State House. Once the KKK arrived, tensions began to rise. Thousands of people gathered to witness the KKK rally against the state’s decision to remove the Confederate Flag. “The Confederate flag does not represent hate, a lot of Americans died for that flag,” said one member of the KKK. However, what started as a peaceful protest, quickly escalated as tensions between protesters and counter-protesters grew. At one point people in the crowd were ripping a Confederate Flag while others engaged in intense arguments. Officials said more than 2,000 people attended the rallies and 5 arrests were made. Law enforcement officials handled each situation that erupted quickly to end the violence.
