Benedict Football Picked To Finish 3rd

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BC SID) — The Benedict College Tigers have been picked to finish third in the East Division of the SIAC, it was announced Monday at the annual SIAC Football Media Day. In a vote by the league’s head football coaches, the Tigers were picked to finish behind Albany State and Fort Valley State, and ahead of Morehouse and Clark Atlanta. Benedict also received two first-place votes. Albany State received six first-place votes, while Fort Valley State picked up three. In the West Division, defending SIAC champion Tuskegee was picked to finish first and received 10 first-place votes. Miles was picked to finish second in the West, followed by Stillman, Central State, Kentucky State and Lane. The preseason All-Conference football team was also announced, and Benedict was one of two teams among the 11 football-playing schools without a representative among the 52 preseason selections, joining Clark Atlanta. Albany State swept the preseason Player of the Year honors, with running back JarvisSmall named preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and linebacker Tavarius Washington named preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Albany State, Tuskegee and Central State each placed nine players on the preseason squad. The Tigers open the season on Sept. 5 against Livingstone in the annual Palmetto Capital City Classic at Charlie W.
