North Carolina man has been convicted in Clemson case

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) — A North Carolina has been convicted of malicious damage under $2,000 in the case of Clemson football’s Howard’s Rock.

Micah Rogers was found not guilty of the more serious charge of grand larceny. He was sentenced on Thursday to a fine of $1,000 and 30 days in jail. The judge suspended that sentence if Rogers completes 25 days of community service and pays a $1,700 fine.

Prosecutors said Rogers, of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, had damaged the case surrounding the rock at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium and chipped off and stole a piece of it in June 2013.

The rock sits on a pedestal at the entrance to the Tigers’ football stadium. The coaches and players touch the rock before running down the hill before the start of games.
