Gamecocks Unranked in Preseason Poll

COLUMBIA, S.C. — For the first time in five seasons, the Gamecocks are unranked in USA Today’s Preseason Coaches Poll, announced Thursday. The last time Carolina came in to a season unranked in USA Today’s preseason poll was 2010, arguably the best season in Carolina football history. The Gamecocks would eventually defeat #1 Alabama on the way to winning the SEC East and securing a spot in the SEC Championship game. USC finished the 2014 campaign 7-6, its worst single-season record since 2009, when the team finished with the same 7-6 record. Carolina is receiving 18 votes to enter the top 25, though 10 teams are receiving votes ahead of USC.
