Update: The body of a missing Newberry man was recovered late Tuesday after a two day search. Day two of the investigation and authorities say they still have no new developments. Now family members tell me that as time ticks by and they still have not heard from Henry Lee Brooks they’re growing more and more concerned. “We’re just praying that he is safe somewhere so we’re just asking everyone that knows the words of prayer to just continue to pray for us because that’s all we can do at this point,” says family member Vincent Brooks. The 66 year old hasn’t been heard from since Sunday afternoon and his vehicle was found abandoned Monday morning on Black’s Bridge. As the search continues, authorities say it’s a struggle not knowing where to start and having minimal leads. “It’s very difficult, you know you just have to work your way back from the last known place and we’re acting on an assumption that the last known place that he was, was where that car was,” says Sheriff Lee Foster. Now on day 2 Police are following up on leads of the last places Brooks was seen, pulling cell phone bills, looking at bank records and continuing their investigations in the water. “We’re doing sonar and sub surface searches and we’re targeting areas now and then marking them and then the divers will go back,” says Foster. Meanwhile, members of Brooks’ family remain vigilant by the water sharing memories… “He’s always been a strong individual, he’s always been able to take care of himself you know… he’s been a hard worker all his life,” says Brooks. And praying for Brooks quick and safe return. “As time progresses we’re all just getting more edgy.” Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department.
