Hopkins man charged with murdering his wife

HOPKINS, S.C. (WOLO) — A 57-year-old Hopkins man has been charged with murder, after police say he confessed to killing his wife Saturday at their home. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Mimi Joe Marshall for murder and felon in possession of a firearm. Sheriff Lott stated that on Saturday, around 8 a.m., deputies were dispatched to 3976 Leesburg Road Lot 5, in reference to a welfare check. The sheriff says that when deputies arrived, they located the victim inside the residence, who was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Shortly after the coroner arrived on scene, he pronounced the victim deceased. Sheriff Lott says that witnesses told deputies that a single gunshot was heard and shortly after, a sports utility vehicle driven by the husband of the victim was seen fleeing the area. Officials say Mimi Marshall confessed to relatives that he killed his wife, Doris Marshall. With assistance from the community, around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Marshall was located nearby in the 2400 block of Congaree Road where deputies were able to take him into custody without incident. The Sheriff says that from the information gathered, Marshall and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation, leading to Marshall killing the victim. Mimi Marshall was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn detention center where he was awaiting a bond hearing.
